UNLOCKING THE DOOR … OPENING THE DOOR ….

(Talking to herself) It’s so good to be back here at Kids’ Poetry Club! I love doing special short bonus episodes. Gosh, it’s soooooo dark in here. Where’s that light switch!

Oh gosh …. That was the garbage disposal. I didn’t even know we had one of those at the Club. Hang on, I know the light switch is here somewhere. Why are there so many buttons? Do we really need … oh, there it is!

SOUND

Oh my .... what’s the marching band doing still here at the Club? You were all here for the last episode! Have you been stuck in the Club since Monday?

Well, perhaps you can march off home now while I figure out which button plays the fanfare music. I’d love a big fanfare when I announce the April competition that Postie Dale is delivering today.

Oh gosh … silly me …. why do I need a button to do that? I have a marching band here! Would you all be willing to stick around a little longer and play a fanfare for me?

That’s so nice of you! While you wait, check out my backpack - there’s a sandwich in there that you can all share. You must be starving!

Okay then - let’s get this started. Postie Dale will be here soon with the letter I need to read out. So I’m going to press the button for the intro music. While that’s playing, get wriggling around to find a comfortable spot. It’s time for a special bonus short episode of Kids’ Poetry Club!

Welcome back! Queenie here at Kids’ Poetry Club for this special short bonus episode to announce the April competition. Postie Dale will be here any moment. While we wait, would any of you like a nibble of my sandwich - I think it’s tuna and banana. They’re two of my favorite things, and so what could be better than combining two of my favorite things into a single sandwich? Surprisingly, the marching band hasn’t finished it yet! I wonder why? Oooohhhhhh I love tuna and banana!

Oh, hang on ... I think I hear Postie Dale arriving. Can you hear that?

SOUND

Postie Dale! Welcome back to Kids’ Poetry Club!

Postie Dale: Thanks Queenie! It’s so great to be here with you. As promised, I’ve brought the special poem competition announcement as part of my first class mail delivery service. Let me find it in my bag.

SOUND

Postie Dale: Here it is!

Thanks, Postie Dale. Do you want to stay while I read it out? You can always sit over there with the marching band.

Postie Dale: Oh, yes please .... I delivered it here on the back of a sheep ... and that poor thing needs to get its breath back before we return to the Poetry Postal Service depot.

Okay then ... This is SOOOOO exciting! Let’s open the envelope … the marching band will play a grand fanfare, and I’ll read this important announcement about the April poetry competition. Here goes … let me clear my throat …. (throat clearning)…

SOUND (Letter Opening)

SOUND (Fanfare)

Oh yay. Oh yay!

I’m not sure why I started like that. I thought it just sounded more official if I said “Oh yay” twice at the start. Ummm …. Let me try this again …. The letter says: members of Kids’ Poetry Club are invited to send in their poems and drawings for the April competition on the topic of … errrr … marching band, can I have a drum roll please? ….. on the topic of SPRING! You have until the end of April to send them in. Ummm … does anyone know how many days there are in April? I know it’s less than 50.

Postie Dale: Well, I always remember the number of days in a month using a handy rhyme. It goes:

Thirty days have September,

April, June, and November;

All the rest have thirty-one,

Except February alone,

And that has twenty-eight days clear

And twenty-nine in each leap year.

Oooohhhhh. I like that. So, there are 30 days in April … which means that you need to send in your poems and drawings by April 30th. I love the topic of Spring – what a perfect topic for April! There are just so many things you could write a poem about, or do a drawing of. Spring reminds me of flowers, leaves returning to the trees, lambs in the fields, the weather getting warmer. There’s SOOOOOOO much.

SOUND

Oh, hang on. The marching band is getting restless. Let’s wrap this up now. Remember that kidspoetryclub.com has all of the information on how to send your Spring poems and drawings into the Club … and don’t forget that the deadline is April 30th. Oh, and the winners will receive lots of Kids’ Poetry Club goodies.

SOUND

Well, Postie Dale … it sounds like your sheep is ready for you to return back to the Poetry Postal Service depot. And, now I’ve made the announcement, I think we can all go home – including the marching band.

A big “Thank you” to everyone who came to the Club today. It’s lovely to have so many friends! Don’t forget that Little Dazzy Donuts is back next Monday with a normal 15-minute episode … I wonder what the topic will be! Whatever it is, I want to pop in to listen to some of the poems. Coming to Kids’ Poetry Club is one of the best parts of my week.

I’m going to play the music now while we all shuffle out and I’ll lock the door behind us. Toodle pip… and see you all soon!

MUSIC

SOUNDS …. Including door locking.

SOUND … ending with a chicken and a trombone.
