Poetry & Art: Aged Under 8

“Still Higher” by Eleanor, aged 6, from United Kingdom

Clouds so high up in the sky
Up above the moon will lie,
Clouds so fluffy,
Moon so hard,
Shining in my back yard.

In space so many planets shine,
In a row or in a line,
In the sky,
Bigger than I,
I spy a big bird fly.

“Lizzie Star” by Enette, aged 7, from United States

The lady's eyes were glittery green
Sparkly enough to be a star
The night was beautiful
The sky full of diamonds

The lady was looking at Earth,
The sun and the glowing moon
Through her pink and aqua telescope
From her home planet, Lizzy-Neween

There were rainbow M&M mountains
Cotton candy flowers covered the fields below
There were mint chocolate chip trees
They created a wonderful scent on the breeze

There was also… A METEOR!

By Kimaya, aged 5, from Belgium

“Sky Explorer” by Kuhu, aged 7, from India

How would you like, to be in the sky?
Wondering, if creatures, would fly up high…
May be you could even meet a Unicorn,
May be you could even meet a Pegasus…

May be you could see the wondrous things,
That you have wanted to see for a long time…
You can’t go anywhere as you are a kid,
I am still angry at that…

I study Astronauts, don’t you know,
I wish to go to the sky..
I want to become a Sky Explorer,
That’s right!

I am going Explore the Sky,
Day and night..
I am gonna, get the secrets allright,
Night and day..

I am gonna, get the secrets allright,
I am gonna, do a study myself..
I am gonna show the world, and the Sky,
Who I really am? What I really can do?

I am gonna
Help the
World become
A marvelous space……

Poetry & Art: Aged 8

“Never Ending Stars” by Achyut, aged 8, from United States

I gazed at the night sky.
I wondered why!

I saw the hunter chasing the Great Bear.
The bear was in despair.

I saw the pendulum clock ticking.
The stars were spinning.

I saw a dragon riding a wagon.
The picture looked like a polygon.

Constellations drive my imagination.
Stars are my destination.

By Prisha, aged 8, from India

“Space And The Sky” by Susitna, aged 8, from India

I wonder why the sky is blue,
Why does the Sun appear yellow - I have no clue.
I marvel at the moon changing its shape,
But every night, I like to sit and gape.

I wish I could go to space,
Hunker down in the space station for many days.
See some asteroids floating high,
Behold magnificent, bright comets whooshing through the sky.

Mercury is planet number one,
It is the closest to the sun.
Mars is planet number four,
Our neighbour next door.

Our cosmos is such a mysterious place,
It is wondrous in all ways.
To be on Earth, I am filled with glee,
It is a beautiful home for you and me.

Poetry & Art: Aged 9

“When I Look Up” by Lily, aged 9, from United Kingdom

I look up at the sky in the day
And I wonder to myself what it would be like to fly high in the sky
I imagine myself a bird
Soaring over trees and up mountains
Meeting others of my kind
As I climb through clouds
Up, up and into the sky

I look up at space in the night
And I wonder to myself what it would be like to fly up and onto Mars
Walking over marshland covering Mars
Meeting alien friends
And flying over to the sun where it will burn so hot
Imagine me, an astronaut
In a rocket with my Martian crew

I imagine all this when I look up at you
Sky
Space

“If I Were A Dragon” by Benjamin, aged 9, from Singapore

If I were a dragon, I would soar through the sky
Eating as I went, a large plum pie
If I were a dragon, I would set fire to
All the books and worksheets my teachers made me do
If I were a dragon, I would be happy to
Do eight-figure loops outside my school
If I were a dragon, I would fly in the air
Protecting my country from threats everywhere
If I were a dragon, I would do as I please
Travel in space, totally at ease
If I were a dragon, I would travel to
Earth, Venus, Mars and beyond Uranus too.

“I Look Up In The Sky” by Eloise, aged 9, from Australia

I look up in the sky and what do I see?
Some very fluffy clouds moving in the breeze
I wake up at night and what do I see
Out my window my window sparkling at me?
It’s the beautiful stars shining so bright
This is why I love the night
I wake up in the morning what do I see
NO CLOUDS NO STARS well nowhere near me
I guess I’ll have to wait and see
If at night the stars are there to shine at me
or I could just go up to space
Then I’d see stars in anyplace!

By Ahil, aged 9, from India

“Amanda Panda Traveled To Space” by Niah, aged 9, from United Kingdom

Amanda panda traveled to space,
Amanda panda traveled to space,
And took with her…
A little pink package, tied up with lace.

Amanda panda traveled to space,
Amanda panda traveled to space,
And took with her…
Her chinchilla, named Ace,
And a little pink package, tied up with lace.

Amanda panda traveled to space,
Amanda panda traveled to space,
And took with her…
Some alien food,
Her chinchilla, named Ace,
And a little pink package, tied up with lace.

Amanda panda traveled to space,
Amanda panda traveled to space,
And took with her…
A banana that says ‘moo’,
Some alien food,
Her chinchilla, named Ace,
And a little pink package, tied up with lace.

Amanda panda traveled to space,
Amanda panda traveled to space,
And took with her…
A tortoise’s shoe,
A banana that said ‘moo’,
Some alien food,
Her chinchilla, named Ace,
And a little pink package, tied up with lace.

And what was in it?
Her passport of course!

Poetry & Art: Aged 10

“Here We Are” by Aarohi, aged 10, from Belgium

Here we are
In the middle of nowhere
Under the stars looking here and there
There we see a million stars
While planets orbit in circular bars

Here we are
In my dream
I see stars shine and beam
While earth orbits for 365 days
Venus orbits the other way

Here we are
When we see comets in the sky
We make a wish when it passes far by
When meteors hit the orbit and crumble down
It makes Earth a stony crown

Here we are
While Jupiter and Saturn are made of gas
While the dwarf planets try to trespass
Our Galaxy is purple and blue
Pieces of debris that were left and flew

Here we are
Space is endless void black and dark
Wolves look at the moon and howl and bark
Quasars suck, Galaxies mix and collide
I want to find out about this endless void

By Ayesha, aged 10, from Pakistan

“The Lonely Kite” by Rex, aged 10, from United Kingdom

High above the world I fly,
Amongst the clouds in the sky.
I look down at the houses and villas,
And palaces with marble pillars.
For I am a glorious bird, a kite,
I think as I carry on, with my endless flight.

By Eylül, aged 10, from Turkey

Poetry & Art: Aged 11

“The Light In The Darkness” by Amogh, aged 11, from United States

I want to be like the sun who gives light to all
the planets and holds all the planets by gravitational force.

I want to be light and speedy like Mercury,
who can circle the sun in about 88 days.

I want to be strong and fierce,
but still speedy, like Venus.

I want to be like the Earth, which gives us
humans food and water and life.

I want to be like the moon, which gives light
in the stronghold of darkness which is the night.

I want to be unpredictable like Mars,
As the red planet is colder than the earth.

I want to persevere like Jupiter, who can withstand
fierce storms that last for centuries each.

I want to be like Saturn, who has
humongous rings.

I want to be like Neptune, who can withstand
frigid temperatures.

I want to be like Uranus, who is always surviving
by itself, no matter what.

I want to be like Pluto, who finishes any task he starts,
no matter what happens to it.

“The Stars” by Ajla, aged 11, from Australia

The night sky so big and
bright polluted by the city
lights, when will i get to see
the stars i just wanted to
study mars and maybe
one day i’ll get to meet
the stars but for now i’ll
wait until that day.

By Senhas, aged 11, from Sri Lanka

“Bushfires” by Ayla, aged 11, from Australia

The sky is blue
The sun is bright
The trees are tall
And i am short.

The grass is green
The clouds are white
The bushfires are bad
and i am sad.

The bushfires come
The world is sad
And there is no more grass.

There is no more joy
Fire fighters come
The nature is back
And I am still short.

“Shooting Stay” by Keisha, aged 11, from Australia

Zap! Zoom! A shooting star,
You fly through  the night
As fast as a car in the sky
What a glistening, glowing sight.

So fast you fly!
As shiny as a scale
I can’t deny,
You leave behind a glittery trail.

But not all stars are shooting
Not all stars fly
Hear owls hooting
As one star shines high.

We call them ‘ginan’*
Some are small
But the Sun came with a Big Bang
The largest star of them all!

By Riyansh, aged 11, from United Kingdom

Poetry & Art: Aged 12

“Space And The Sky” by Dulasi, aged 12, from Sri Lanka

The sky is blue and filled with clouds
And mister sun is waking up
Birds are playing hide and seek
Hope today will bring good luck

At the end of the day the sun goes down
And the darkness descends, all through the town
While every one’s in bed a black canopy is over us
The night sky fills with fairy dust

The moon is glowing big and bold
And little stars blink, twinkle like gold
Shooting stars to make a wish with the sky
Rubbing out the darkness as they pass by

I ride on a star and zoom into space
Float with the planets that move with grace
Endlessly moving, endlessly zooring
My mind like the universe-ever expanding

“My Super Giant Star” by Ahmad, aged 12, from Pakistan

I am living in a galaxy.
Galaxy of stars and moons.
They all are luminous.
They are all my teachers.
They teach me, they guide me.
But for me there is one supergiant star.
Because when worldly attractions detrack me.
She is the one who brings me back on track.
When I am in pain or in grief.
She understands my emotions.
When even I am passing through my rainy days.
She holds me under her umbrella of love and gentle smile.
She is my super giant star.
I revolve around her like my other friends.
You are my source of life , you are my mentor.
You are really Mahvish like your name.
Spreading the light like a supergiant star

By Senitha, aged 12, from Sri Lanka

“The Expanding Universe” by Buvindu, aged 12, from Sri Lanka

The universe goes on for miles and miles
Never reaching its final size.

The universe is dotted with stars glowing at night
In shades of yellow, blue and white.

Black holes, planets it carries them all.
We’ll never know what all of it is called.

Asteroids, moons and planets like balls
Our solar system contains them all.

Most importantly is the giant sun
Eight planets orbit her in orderly run.

Earth has nature, water and life.
Earth is where we survive.

Mars is the closest planet to us.
May be there’s life yet to discuss.

Jupiter the biggest of all.
May be the scariest of them all.

Sitting here small and looking above.
I wonder what’s out there….
Can they feel?
Can they love?

“Stars” by Megan, aged 12, from United Kingdom

Cold as death,
Black as night,
When we see the stars so bright,
We never think,
Or wonder why,
These tiny specks float in the sky,
Like pinpricks,
Or breadcrumbs,
Swaddled in black,
One night they're gone, and the next, their back,
Their beauty is endless,
They dance with the moon,
Like music or notes, or beats, like a tune,
An artist may try,
And paint what’s above,
But can never quite capture,
The whimsical love,
These crystals, these stars,
Cast down below,
The miniature dots, their beauty, their glow.

“The Curious Case Of The Cosmos” by Onel, aged 13, from Sri Lanka

Stars, planets, galaxies,
Oh what a wonder, this great thing is
The cosmos; also called the universe
Cannot be explained, merely in a verse

Stephen Hawking studied black holes,
Elon Musk is trying to go to Mars,
Johannes Kepler did an awful lot of research,
Trying to reach the stars.

The Big Bang formed it,
As they say
But how do we know for sure?
We weren’t back there in the day.

History is found,
We aren’t so sure of the present.
But what about the future?
The universe is, was and will be, unsolved.

“Gravitating in Space” by Prachi, aged 15, from United Kingdom

Tumbled and toppled
Her fantasy world
Approaching the night sky

The twilight sky looking like a kaleidoscope
From her small inched microscope
Staring wide eyed into the dusk of black
Magnified yet every spec modify
The singular spec are just the stars that soar above
Swirling and dancing melodiously
So beautifully ordinary
Upbringing warmth and clarity
As the wind lifts and directs her without sanity

Brushing past the radiant and overcast moon
Much like a great silver balloon
Each planet perpetually orbiting
A vibrant binding so convincing
So conflicting whilst the rest of the world is opening.

By Musa, aged 13, from Pakistan

“In My Holidays” by Aditeya, aged 14, from India

In my Holidays, I go to space
which is a wonderful place.
There, I’ll play with the stars;
explore Moon and Mars,
will step on the Moon
and feel like a balloon,
check out all the planets there
and wonder, Pluto has gone where?
Unfold all the mysteries;
and will learn all about their history.
I’ll definitely chase the Sun.
Oh, it will be a lot of “FUN”.

“Space” by Sanaskriti, aged 13, from India

My brain is so gracious and spacious
for the memories that dwell in it.
I traversed through my inner space where;
Words burst like a supernova, enlightening a new idea.
A comet of thoughts orbits around my cortex.

Some memory embraces me with light and warmth.
Some hold me to the ground, wet and solid.
Idea illuminates like a moon, satellites around my inner core.
A nebula of uncertainty forms after an explosion of contradicting ideas.
I could sense those tiny thoughts still glittering around the big one.

When I couldn't find any, I pressurized my positive and negative thoughts, to create a sensible one.
Sometimes a void is created in my brain, where nothing comes in or goes out.
Each and every thought is simultaneously orbiting around my nerve.
I could see them concentrating, giving way to the next.
Some words excites my pulse, some fuses into one.
Perplexed by the complexity, I opted out of space to doze off!!
